Sadly pub on the market with Punch...no smoking area hasn't helped this place at all.

The Stag has had its ups and downs- bit more down it seems sometimes lately which is a shame but a lot of the pubs in town are losing trade as its an expensive pastime; drinking that is. And with these greedy brewery co's etc wanting more and more profits you cn bet your life Stowmarket will be losing yet more little pubs and the only ones left will be the saturday night brawler boozer town centre jobs! Its a great shame. Make the effort and get out for a few pints- its the social fabric of England.Phil the landlord is a 'proper' landlord.Probably the only one in town.Yes sometimes he does appear a bit gruff but hes the real deal, genuine lovely fella. He isnt just out to take your cash and not give a hoot.People who know him appreciate that and if he goes it will be a great great shame.
If you want a nice traditional drinker- look no further than the Stag Tavern.

i do not like this pub i rarther it was a butchers shop as i was years ago
