Have you considered Needham Market? it has it's own station, yet still has more of a country feel to it, yet still having facilities (For instance, the regular farmers markets at Alder Carr farm shop on the edge of the village).
Mind you, compared to Ilford, I suspect most of Suffolk would make you feel cut off (especially when Railtrack are closing the railway line towards London for a couple of months this summer)
Without meaning to sound rude, what are your motivations to moving to Stow[market]? That might help in the old recomendations on areas to look at...
